Chettinad-Touches of Tradition

Updated: Oct 14, 2019

I had the chance to visit the rustic, earthy and beautiful Chettinad earlier this year for a wedding. Chettinad cuisine isn’t necessarily vegetarian friendly thankfully the scrumptious ellai sapad I had at the wedding more than made up for it

while exploring the city and its mansions I also had the chance to explore two stunning properties and interact with their management during this trip "Visalam & Bangala" and my experience below

As its name suggests, Visalam is spacious and homey. The chef and the staff welcomed me with a gala traditional Chettinad style lunch and kept me feeling pampered my entire time there. The property is a little further away from the main Devakottai city itself but is perfect for some peace and quiet. I also visited the legendary AATHANGUDI tile workshop just 10kms away from the property. Watching these handmade wonders come to life is amazing.

Bangala is a beautiful boutique property with trademark Aathangudi tiled rooms at the heart of Devakottai. With warm and welcoming staff, the property also offers Chettinad cooking classes in its premises. This location served as the perfect base to visit neighboring cities.
